CONSULTATION

Since we work with so many screenwriters and producers,

we understand how to talk to you.  Shaping a film story is, we believe, the hardest part of making a movie.  In a very real way, the screenwriter and producer BUILD the house – everybody else just comes in to decorate it.

We understand that to do all that hard work, you must be inspired.  Great ideas need to be nurtured while they grow.   There’s nothing worse than having a great, original concept, but losing heart, and abandoning ship.  Successful story makers, from what we’ve observed, are the ones who don’t quit.  But how do you stay inspired?  That’s where we come in.

We help story makers at all stages of writing:

  • Concept refinement
  • Character development
  • Story structure
  • Scene work
  • Rewriting
  • Dialogue
  • Style, voice and tone

We will meet either in person in our offices in Venice, or on SKYPE (voice call) or Webex (Webex lets us work on a virtual blackboard together, and lets us show you movie clips to illustrate our points about your script).  We go over your needs, give you assignments and ask you to do the hard work of creating your original vision.  With lots of encouragement and a clear understanding of the process, we give you the attention and direction you need to write and finish your script.  Finally, we offer our opinion of its saleability.  We work in Hollywood right now, for major studios.  We know what is selling.  What isn’t.  That’s part of our service to you.  Fashion and taste in Hollywood is always changing — and knowing the trends are important when it comes to selling.

Working with us is like hiring a personal trainer at the gym.  You might work out when you go by yourself, but a trainer can push you to go where you’ve never been before — and you’ll appreciate the results.

We’ve read thousands of screenplays.  Good ones.  Bad ones.  And lots and lots of screenplays that are almost great, but need some extra work to make them truly special.  Some scripts just need a little push to move them from good to great.

Fast Coverage is perfect when you need it, well, fast.

Send us your script, and we’ll promptly email you back with an appointment time to go over a thorough review of your project from either an independent film perspective or a studio perspective.

We will read your script and then meet with you, for 45 minutes going over its strengths, weaknesses and – importantly – offering you our suggestions for how to improve your project.  In that time we will review your story’s ‘logline’ (a one sentence description of your entire movie story from the perspective of your hero), and your project according to standard studio coverage Elements: Logline, Premise, Structure, Character, Storyline, and Dialogue.  These “Five Elements” shown in the chart box below, are what we use when we work for studios — they are universally used in the industry.  During our conference with you, you can ask any questions you wish, and get feedback on character and story ideas that relate to your project.  Our focus is helping you create the best possible project you can.  We give you personal direction, and our suggestions are never cookie-cutter – you get the best of us, every time.  We love what we do.

Conferences are done either in person, by phone or by WebEx online two-way webcast.

When you’ve got a sudden meeting in three days, when a client wants a script in a week, when an opportunity suddenly presents itself, and you need a log line or a property right now — this is the service to use.
